“We hired a renovator to move and update an indoor staircase. After tearing out the old stairs, he cut a hole in our dining room floor, built a rough plywood stair case and put up some unfinished walls and moulding (we later discovered that he put up the moulding to hide big holes where the drywall didn’t meet!)—this took 6 weeks longer than he said the entire project would take. We had paid about 80% of the quoted cost, plus extra for materials, when he stopped coming and wouldn’t return our phone calls. He never finished the job.
A sympathetic friend suggested Renco Home Improvements. Terry arrived, talked to us about what we wanted to do, made a few suggestions, and gave us a written job quote that detailed exactly what would be done. Despite one of the biggest snow storms of the year, the crew arrived by 9:30 am on the start date. They gave us a beautiful staircase, with perfect tiling, carpet-installation, baseboards, finished walls, and they even painted the walls for us. A supervisor visited the job site every day to check in with us and review the work being done. The workers tidied up their mess before they left each day. There were no extra or hidden costs; our final bill was the same as the job quote. We will be hiring Renco for any future renovations and maintenance.”
“Terry Fraser (owner of Renco) did his first contract on our house in the early 1990’s. Over the years I’ve hired him to reshingle the roof, update the insulation, work on the home exterior, and for landscaping (including levelling and putting in a new lawn). He always did a good job—or I wouldn’t have had him back! His price quotes were usually in the middle range, but I found that he gave great value in terms of the quality of work and materials. The work holds up well over time. One of the things I liked best about Renco’s work crews is that when they left at night, everything was as clean as a pin.”
“Renco built my soundproof music room and recording studio. I got a couple of quotes and Terry was right on. He explained the full range of options, not just the priciest ones. His quote was pretty much what I paid, except for some extra material costs where I asked them to upgrade to a steel door.
I liked that the crew always showed up on time or, if they were delayed, they always called with a good reason. We were very pleased with the cleanliness of the crew–they were careful with the existing carpets and took away their garbage as they worked. I’ve hired Renco many times since that first job (insulating, flooring, eaves troughing and caps, and a waterline for my backyard). They’re fast and they do a good job.”
“I hired Renco in 2006 to do a total renovation on my kitchen and insulate some outside walls. I was very pleased with everything. The price quote Terry gave me was medium when compared to other contractors, but the price on the quote was the same price I paid when the job was finished. The crew was excellent, tidy, and were pleasant—I felt comfortable having them in my house. I would hire Renco again.”
“Renco has done several jobs at our home—landscaping with the construction of a retaining wall, building a shed, shingling our garage, installing air cleaners and more. The quality of the work was very good—or I wouldn’t have them back. I’m a woodworker myself, so I have a better than average idea of whether a repair has been done properly or not. I especially liked the follow-up service, where they checked in with us periodically to ensure that everything was okay and that no problems had developed.
Their pricing is very comparative; they were fair and the price Terry gave us when he did the job quote was the final price—except when I asked him to do extra work that wasn’t in the original quote.
The job crews were very efficient and cleaned up whatever mess they made as they went along. The work has held up over time and I wouldn’t hesitate to hire them again.”
“We hired Terry Fraser to rebuild our laundry room (after he put in some sensor lights and railings on our deck for us) over 10 years ago. We liked his work so much that we later hired him and his team to do a total renovation of our bathroom. His pricing was competitive and the work was very good quality—if there are any issues, he comes back and makes it right.
He gave a time frame for the work and his crew showed up on time and finished the work within the Renco estimate. I was really impressed with how well the workers cleaned up every day—when they were hammering up the concrete for the laundry room, they kept vacuuming up the particles, which really kept the dust down in the rest of our house. Terry and his team did good quality work that has held up well for more than 10 years. We will hire him for our next round of renovations.”
“Renco redid my laneway and installed new railings on my front and side porch. Terry Fraser met with me, discussed what would happen, and then gave me a written job quote that was very detailed—the price ended up being the same as his initial quote. The pricing was good, especially given the excellence of the work. The work was well done and feels sturdy.
I live alone and have, in the past, felt nervous with some contractors’ work crews. But the Renco crew were top notch and I felt comfortable having them around my home. They always cleaned up the job site before they left for the night. I would trust Renco with any job my home needs and I expect to hire them again.”
“Thank you for all the good work done at our home. We are enjoying the end product and appreciate all your suggestions and the direction given to your workers who, in our opinion, are excellent”
“My partner and I live in a townhouse and we could hear way too much of our heavy-footed neighbours’ lives! After some research on sound insulation, we hired Renco. After they had finished, we couldn’t hear noise from the next door townhouse anymore. They did a great job, in terms of quality, and the cost was very reasonable, given the price of the raw materials needed for complete soundproofing. Their workers always left the place clean when they left for the day. Since the first job, we’ve had Renco crews back three times to fix our creaky joists, put in a top-notch furnace/air filtration system, and do more soundproofing between interior floors. Each time, we’ve been very happy with their work”
Renco and Terry Fraser have done work for my mom and me for over 15 years, since he installed a roof at my mother’s house. He did such a good job on her older home that we’ve had him back almost every year (between her house and mine). This last summer, he got rid of the leak that’s been flooding our basement by digging up around our house and waterproofing the below grade walls and improving the drainage.
Renco does quality work and uses quality materials that last—we’ve never had any problems with the jobs they did for us. His crew cleans up after themselves as they go along. I could probably find a cheaper crew, but I doubt the work would be done as well or last as long. I also like that he gives a written estimate at the start of the job—so far the price has never been higher than the quote! I keep hiring Renco because I’m happy with their work; we have two older homes that need a lot of specialized upkeep and they know what to do.
